Bomb threat email triggers evacuation at Moga court complex

Panic prevailed in Moga town today after a bomb threat email was received on the official email of district judicial authorities. "The district court complex was evacuated following the email," said Ajay Gandhi, SSP Moga.

According to officials, the email was sent to the official email ID of the District and Sessions Judge, triggering an immediate security response. As soon as the alert was received, all judicial staff, lawyers, litigants and visitors were asked to vacate the court premises without delay, even as routine court proceedings were underway.

A heavy police force was rushed to the spot and the entire court complex was cordoned off. Senior police officers, including the Moga SSP, reached the site to supervise the security operation.

Multiple police teams were formed to conduct a thorough search of the premises. Dog squads and bomb disposal squads were also deployed and carried out an intensive check of the court building and its surroundings. Police officials said that every corner of the complex was being examined to rule out any threat and to ensure public safety.

The SSP said that the threat email is being investigated in depth to ascertain its origin and authenticity. “No laxity is being allowed. The safety of the public and court staff is our top priority,” the SSP said, adding that security agencies remain on high alert.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident, while further action will be taken based on the findings of the search operation.
