Chandigarh: The government has announced a one-time settlement (OTS) plan for the people who have failed to pay the property tax up to March 31 this year. The Local Government Department has allowed such persons to pay the tax till October 30, with 50 per cent rebate on penalty and interest levied on the defaulting amount along with the principal amount. The penalty and the interest on the defaulting amount will be waived, if the tax is deposited by July 31. TNS

Gargaj seeks reopening of Kartarpur Corridor

Amritsar: Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj has called upon the Centre and Pakistan to reopen the Kartarpur Corridor, which was shut on May 7 after India launched “Operation Sindoor” on terror camps in Pakistan. Giani Gargaj said the tension between India and Pakistan had died down and it was not justified to put restrictions on the corridor. TNS

Two held with illegal weapons

Muktsar: The police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two persons allegedly carrying two illegal weapons and four live cartridges. SSP Akhil Chaudhary said the duo was arrested after a car chase at Adhnian village in the Lambi Assembly segment. Those arrested were identified as Rajanbir Singh of Fatehpur Manianwala and Sukhbir Singh of Kakhanwali village here. TNS

Smuggling gang busted

Sriganganagar: The police have busted a gang involved in the smuggling of heroin via the Attari border. The drug was then sold in Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh. Surinder Kumar Sonu of Beenjhbayala and Rajinder Kumar of Jeevandesar were arrested after 300 gm heroin and Rs 1.54 lakh drug money was seized. OC
