Sangrur, April 18
A girl student of a government school was killed and three others were critically injured after being hit by a PRTC bus at Mehla Chowk here today.
The deceased was identified as Amandeep Kaur (12), while those injured were Damanpreet Kaur, Baljinder Kaur and Gurvir Kaur. The injured were taken to the Sangrur Civil Hospital for treatment, from where Damanpreet Kaur was referred to a Patiala hospital.
Some relatives of the injured maintained that the girls were standing on roadside, while others said they were crossing the road when the accident occurred.
“All injured have suffered multiple injuries, but Damanpreet’s condition is serious. We have referred her to Patiala,” said Dr Baljit Singh, Senior Medical Officer at the Sangrur hospital.
A case has been registered against bus driver Kulwinder Singh under Sections 304-A, 279, 337 and 338 of the IPC and he has been arrested. Sangrur DC Jitendra Jorwal and SSP Mandeep Sidhu met the injured in hospital and assured them of all help. “The government has announced Rs. 2 lakh for the deceased’s kin and free treatment for the injured,” the DC said.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema Punjab have expressed condolences over the death of the girl student and assured all help to the affected families.
