Chandigarh: On Saturday, the entire leadership of the Shiromani Akali Dal was in Harmandir Sahib to seek forgiveness for their “unintentional” mistakes during their decade-long rule in the state. In no time, the photographs of sewa being carried out by SAD president Sukhbir Badal cleaning shoes with flowing beard went viral. Interestingly, the former Deputy CM was seen trying to shine a Gold Star sports shoe with a leather polish brush. It is a separate matter that the “celebrity shoe” must have belonged to the common man as the Gold Star (priced at Rs 350) is an affordable Nepali brand. “This is the beauty of democracy! The man who enjoyed raj as well as sewa his entire life doesn’t even know that sports shoes cannot be shined with leather shoe polish,” a seasoned political commentator observed. TNS
