Police said the woman, identified as Rupinder Kaur, plotted the killing along with her lover, Harkawalpreet Singh of Balluana village in Bathinda, who is currently absconding.
The victim, Gurwinder Singh, belonged to an NRI family and married Rupinder Kaur in 2023. After the wedding, she moved to Canada but was deported in 2024. During her stay abroad, she allegedly developed a relationship with Harkawalpreet Singh, who was also deported around the same time.
Gurwinder Singh’s sister, Manveer Kaur, had filed a complaint stating that her brother had repeatedly expressed fear for his life and informed the family about the illicit relationship between his wife and her lover.
On Friday night, Rupinder Kaur raised an alarm in the house, claiming something had happened. When villagers rushed to the scene, they found Gurwinder Singh’s body on the rooftop.
Police said it’s still unclear whether he was strangled or poisoned. DSP Tarlochan Singh said a case has been registered against both accused at the Sadar Faridkot police station. Rupinder Kaur has been arrested, while efforts are underway to catch her lover. Gurwinder Singh’s body has been sent to Faridkot Medical College Hospital for the postmortem examination.
