Canal breach destroys crops, farmers seek relief

FEROZEPUR: More than 200 acres of agricultural land was submerged due to 25-feet-wide breach in the Lachhman Canal near Hajara Singh Wala village in the Mamdot block.

More than 200 acres of agricultural land was submerged due to 25-feet-wide breach in the Lachhman Canal near Hajara Singh Wala village in the Mamdot block.

As per information, the breach took place near pillar number 6,150, due to which the standing crops in the submerged fields were completely destroyed.

The breach was noticed on Thursday morning by farmers while going to their fields. The farmers immediately informed officials of the Irrigation Department.

Later, a team of department officials reached the spot and took stock of the situation. The officials said the breach took place as the banks were damaged by rodents. They assured the farmers that the breach would be plugged by the evening.

Meanwhile, farmers Gurmej Singh, Bohar Singh, Desa Singh and others demanded compensation for their destroyed crops from the administration.
