Centre proposes meeting with protesting farmers on February 14 in Chandigarh
The Centre has proposed a meeting with the protesting farmers on February 14 in Chandigarh to discuss their demands, a senior official of the Central Government said on Saturday.
A delegation of Central Government officials led by Priya Ranjan, Joint Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, today met farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a fast unto death for the past 54 days at the Khanauri border point between Punjab and Haryana, and invited the fasting farmer leader for talks on February 14 at the Mahatama Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration in Chandigarh.
"I hope Dallewal will break his fast and participate in talks," he said.
Dallewal has been on a fast unto death since November 26 to press for the acceptance of farmers’ demands.
Following the announcement, farmer leaders appealed to fasting farmer leader Dallewal to take medical aid so that he can participate in the proposed meeting.
