Former Punjab chief minister and Congress Lok Sabha MP from Jalandhar Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament for his comments on BR Ambedkar, saying there should be a fact-finding committee to probe his comments and that the senior BJP leader should apologise.

"The Home Minister made objectionable comments against Ambedkar, who fought for the uplift of women and Dalits like me. He should apologise for his comments, as encouraged by Shah's comments, a man last week damaged Ambedkar's statue in Punjab," Channi said amid protests by the treasury benches.

Participating in the discussion on Motion of Thanks on President's address in the Lower House, Channi also criticised the BJP-led NDA coalition for “suppressing the voice of farmers and minorities” as well as “maligning” Dalits.
