Class XII student shot dead in Amritsar

Mystery shrouds the death of Amarjot, a Class XII student, who was found lying in a pool of blood on the road side at Mehta here late last night. The villagers thought it to be a case of accident. They rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Later, the family brought the body home. He was the only son of farmer Sukhdev Singh.

Sometime later, a police team arrived there. SHO Jasbir Singh examined the body and noticed bullet wounds, indicating that it was a case of murder.

Amritsar (Rural) SSP Sohail Qasim Mir later confirmed that Amarjot had sustained at least two gunshot injuries. “The motive behind the crime is not clear as yet. We are investigating all possible angles. Teams have been deployed to identify the accused,” he said.

“We have no enmity with anyone. Amarjot was a simple boy. We cannot understand why this happened,” said a relative.

The police took the body into custody and sent for autopsy to ascertain the actual cause of death.
