Nangal, June 3
The Gau Sewa Mission head, Krishnanand, has been missing and his Bolero jeep was lying abandoned on the banks of the Nangal Hydel channel here today. The leader had reportedly left a gaushala run by him at Shampur Rurki near Garhshankar at 1 am in the jeep alone.
A large number of his followers sat on a dharna at the Nangal-Chandigarh road to seek a high level probe into the incident. Punjab Gau Sewa Commission chairman Kimti Bhagat said they suspected foul play in the case. The police have registered a case under Section 365 of the IPC (kidnapping).
Kimti Bhagat said Krishnanand had been vociferously opposing the opening of slaughterhouses in the state, due to which he was facing life threats. Bhagat claimed that keeping in view the threats, an application was submitted with the Director General of Police to provide him security, but the authorities did not take any action.
He said Krishnanand had two car drivers and so, it is not possible that he himself was driving the jeep at 1.30 am.
Nangal Deputy Superintnendent of Police SS Dhaliwal said the footage of a CCTV camera installed at the Himachal Pradesh barrier would be procured to confirm how the victim had reached Nangal. Sources said the police have found a handwritten note, asking his three followers to work for the welfare of cows, from his ashram at Binewal village near Garhshankar. “We are looking into all angles before reaching a conclusion,” said a police officer.
