Nawanshahr district tops in seed fish production

JALANDHAR: The Nawanshahr district has topped the state in seed fish production for the third consecutive year.

The Nawanshahr district has topped the state in seed fish production for the third consecutive year. Deputy Commissioner Ravinder Singh said the district had been leading in the state in the production of seed fish since the year 2013-14. He said a total of 90.06 lakh seed fish was produced and supplied by the Government Seed Fish Farm situated at Dhandua village this year.

The production of fish seed in 2013-14 was 89.13 lakh and 46.98 lakh in 2012-13. He said the production this year touched a record high.

Singh said at the seed fish farm, production was being carried out with scientific methods. Moreover, seed fish has been supplied at a nominal cost of Rs 100 per one thousand pieces.

Karan Singh, Assistant Project Officer, Fisheries, said technical know-how for fish farming was being provided by the department.
