Former Deputy Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha and senior vice-president of SAD (Taksali) Bir Devinder on Friday said the Congress was allegedly burying the probe into the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in an opprobrious manner.

“The recent letter of DGP (Investigation) Prabodh Kumar to the CBI, in contravention of the explicit resolution of the House, seems to be a malicious attempt, which has left no one in doubt that Capt Amarinder Singh was trying to absolve Sirsa dera of the crime in tandem with the Badal family,” he added.

“Otherwise why would a top-ranking police officer write to the CBI, violating the unambiguous direction of the state Legislature to withdraw all sacrilege cases from the CBI,” said Bir Devinder.

He called upon the MLAs, including the members of the Opposition, to speak on the brazen breach of the privilege of the House. As a matter of fact, the motion was moved on the floor of the House by none else but senior Cabinet Minister Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, which was unanimously passed.

Khaira questions Captover DGP’s letter to CBI

Bholath MLA and Punjab Ekta Party chief Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Friday questioned the morality of the Chief Minister for the alleged contradictory stand of the state government and the DGP (Investigation) on taking back the probe into the Bargari sacrilege cases from the CBI.

“A DGP can’t dare to write such a letter, which is against the interest of the state government, without the consent of the CM,” he added.

Khaira said: “The actions of the CM speak louder than words and one can easily read between the lines that he is hell bent on washing away the sins of Badal family.”
