Chandigarh, December 10

Amid the ongoing “cold war” between Capt Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today met the CM at his official residence to enquire about his health.

Capt Amarinder, who could not attend the launch of special edition of “Navjivan” due to ill health, had been advised rest after he underwent some routine medical tests at the PGI on Sunday.

Sidhu, who also skipped the event, was away to Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, for his follow-up treatment regarding his vocal cords.

Though senior Congress leader Moti Lal Vohra mentioned the CM’s ill health in his speech, Rahul and Dr Manmohan Singh failed to mention his name, triggering speculation in the state unit.

Senior party leaders saved the day by advising the top leaders to visit the CM, which was not in the itinerary. The Congress president along with Dr Manmohan Singh, Punjab affairs incharge Asha Kumari and Harish Chaudhary, PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar and PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla called upon the Chief Minister after the Mohali event.

Though no discussion took place between Rahul and Capt Amarinder on the matter involving Sidhu, the former is learnt to have mentioned to a senior leader about the “tussle” between the two. The CM is learnt to have assured Rahul on passing a resolution, urging the Centre to bring Women Reservation Bill, in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha session.
