Court orders FIR against Moga ex-SSP, other cops

MOGA: The District and Sessions’ Court has ordered the registration of a criminal case under the NDPS Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act against former SSP Kamaljit Singh Dhillon and a few other police officials in a case of recovery of drugs from Nathuwala police post (Moga) on the intervening night of September 6 and 7, 2013.

The District and Sessions’ Court has ordered the registration of a criminal case under the NDPS Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act against former SSP Kamaljit Singh Dhillon and a few other police officials in a case of recovery of drugs from Nathuwala police post (Moga) on the intervening night of September 6 and 7, 2013.

ASI Jarnail Singh, the then incharge of Nathuwala police post, and Munshi Jasbir Singh were arrested, while another Head Constable Devinder Singh alias Billa had fled the spot. Later, he was also arrested, but, he died of cancer about four years ago.

About 168 kg of poppy husk, 66 bottles of liquor and Rs 46,000 were recovered from the police post. An FIR was registered against the trio.

Dhillon was the SSP of Moga when this case was registered. The police filed a challan on May 5, 2014, but later got permission to reinvestigate the case.

After a fresh probe by the then SP Harjit Singh Pannu, the accused were given the clean chit.

There were allegations against Dhillon for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 40 lakh from Jarnail Singh and Jasbir Singh discharge them. A separate inquiry into was conducted by senior IPS officer LK Yadav, the then IG, who had indicted the SSP of corruption.
