Drug racket unearthed in Punjab; 6 kg heroin seized
Punjab Police on Sunday unearthed a cross-border drug smuggling racket and recovered 6 kg heroin and over 60 cartridges. The racket was unearthed by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC).
However, the prime accused, who got the contraband smuggled from Pakistan, managed to flee from the spot during the raid.
"In a major breakthrough against trans-border narcotic network, SSOC Amritsar has busted a cross-border heroin smuggling racket and recovered 6 Kg Heroin, 67 live cartridges, 2 magazines, 6 mobile phones," Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on X.
He said the teams had got reliable inputs about involvement of Gurdaspur’s Jaffarpur village-based drug peddler in trans-border narcotics and weapons smuggling.
"He has recently received a drugs, and arms and ammunition consignment through drones from near the International Border in Batala-Gurdaspur,” the DGP said, adding that the accused was going to deliver the consignment to some other party.
A raid at Jaffarpur village was conducted and the accused managed to flee after throwing away his bag containing the consignment, he added.
The DGP said a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
"FIR under NDPS Act has been registered and Investigation on-going to establish backward & forward linkages to apprehend the accused," the top police officer added.
