Dalits seek one govt job per family

SANGRUR: Dalit leaders have demanded a special policy to ensure at least one government/private job for each SC family.

Sangrur, July 11

Dalit leaders have demanded a special policy to ensure at least one government/private job for each SC family. They were responding to The Tribune news, “No jobs, well-placed families make most of Dalit quota”, published on Thursday.

“It’s fact that reservation has failed to help Dalits in a desired way. But still there is misconception that all Dalits have been getting benefit of reservation. Both Central and state government must wake up and see the reality of Dalit children, who are working as labourer, despite have degrees of higher education. There is an urgent need for a special policy to help jobless Dalit families,” said Dr Makhan Singh, Punjab general secretary of the BSP.

Sanjeev Mintu, Punjab president,Krantikari Pendu Mazdoor Union, said most children of landless Dalit labourers were forced to work as labourer despite holding degrees. Dalit Welfare Sanghthan alleged various governments had used SCs as only political gains. — TNS
