Dense fog claims two lives in Moga

Moga, January 17

Two persons, including a woman, were killed while five others seriously injured in a road mishap, which occurred due to dense fog near Singhawala village on the Moga-Baghapurana road here on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Pooja Rani (20) of Singhawala village and Harpreet Singh (33) of Chandpurana village.

The incident took place when Pooja Rani along with her friend Simranjit Kaur and her brother Abhishek Sharma were on the way to Moga city. The motorcycle they were riding on rammed into a standing canter. They all were seriously injured.

Two motorcycle-borne youths Charanjit Singh and Thana Singh, who were passing by, stopped to help the injured. Two others Harpreet Singh and Malkeet Singh also joined them. Meanwhile, a speeding car hit all of them, probably due to low visibility.

Pooja and Harpreet succumbed to their injuries. In view of the serious condition of Abhishek, he was referred to the DMC hospital in Ludhiana while Simranjit Kaur was referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital at Faridkot.

The rest of the three injured were first taken to the district hospital, but later shifted to private hospitals.

The driver and occupants of the Swift car fled from the spot. The police have registered a criminal case under Section 304A of the IPC against the driver.

The bodies were handed over to the family members after the postmortem examination.
