CHANDIGARH: A former SOPU president and Ropar district Congress president Barinder Dhillon has won the election to the post of president, Punjab Youth Congress, counting for which was held here today.

A former SOPU president and Ropar district Congress president Barinder Dhillon has won the election to the post of president, Punjab Youth Congress, counting for which was held here today.

Apart from the president, the polling was also held over three days (December 5-7) for electing four vice-presidents, 11 general secretaries and 28 district presidents.

The results would be officially declared by Monday by the Indian Youth Congress. As per information, Dhillon defeated his nearest rival Jaswinder Jassi by 22,000 votes by polling 29,000 against 8,000 polled by Jassi. Gurjit Dhindsa came third.

Others candidates in the race were Dhanwant Singh Jimmy, Iqbal Singh Grewal, Jaswinder, Parvinder Lapran, Vaneshwar Khera (Bunny) and Daman Bajwa.

The posts of general secretaries in general category went to Mohit Mohindra, son of Cabinet minister Brahm Mohindra, who got the highest votes followed by Kiranpreet Pahra, brother of Gurdaspur MLA Barindermeet Pahra, Akash Deep Majithia and Dilraj Sarkaria, nephew of Cabinet minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria. Amit Bawa has been elected general secretary in the OBC category.
