Sangrur, February 22
The decision of the Sangrur administration to reserve the Dhuri Civil Hospital as Covid Care Centre (CCC) for the deliveries of only Covid pregnant women has spelled doom for residents of many villages.
In the past one month, not a single delivery has taken place in the hospital while many villagers have to take their pregnant women to Sangrur or private hospitals for deliveries.
The health authorities have also closed the operation theatre for other surgeries, multiplying their problems.
“There is no doctor for medicine and paediatric departments. Even the ultrasound machine is lying idle in the absence of the operator. How the delivery could be done without the presence of the doctors? The decision is wrong and the administration must rectify its mistake as it has affected the health services in 70 villages," said Randhir Singh, former president of the Dhuri Chemist Association.
Local AAP leader Anwar Bhasaur, who had submitted a memorandum to the SDM, Dhuri, also demanded normal services.
“Deliveries are done free in the Civil Hospital, but in private hospitals, the poor are being charged around Rs 20,000 to 25,000 per delivery. It's happening despite the fact that Covid cases have receded, but the authorities have forgotten to start normal deliveries here," said Bhasaur.
“We are aware of the problems of the residents and have written to our seniors to start normal deliveries here. Though during the last one month, there is no delivery of any Covid patient here, during Covid, the hospital did a commendable job by arranging doctors from the surrounding areas,” said Dr Rishma Bhaura, Senior Medical Officer, Dhuri.
SDM, Dhuri, Latif Ahmed said, “I will take up the issue with the Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday during our meeting."
