Dismissed ASI sentenced to life for raping widow after implicating her son in drug case
A video of the ASI committing the crime was also recorded by a relative of the victim, who had suddenly entered the room
The special court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajesh Kumar has sentenced dismissed ASI Gurwinder Singh to rigorous imprisonment for life after convicting him of raping a widow in 2021.
Gurwinder was posted with the CIA-1 wing of the Bathinda police at the time, and sexually exploited the woman after implicating her son in a drug case, assuring her that he could help exonerate him.
A video of the ASI committing the crime was also recorded by a relative of the victim, who had suddenly entered the room.
Pronouncing the quantum of sentence, the court observed that the convict did not deserve any leniency, noting that he was a public servant at the time of the offence.
Gurwinder Singh was convicted under Section 376(2) of the IPC for offences committed on May 10 and May 11, 2021.
On both counts, he has been awarded rigorous imprisonment for life for the remainder of his natural life along with a fine of Rs 10,000 in each case. In default of payment of the fine, he will undergo simple imprisonment for three years.
He has also been sentenced under various other provisions of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
