Moga, July 28

A 55-year-old ex-serviceman, also a schoolteacher, was brutally murdered by his drug-addict son on the outskirts of Charik village on Thursday, the police said.

The victim, Buta Singh is a resident of Charik village. After retiring from the Army, he joined as a physical education teacher at the DN Model School in Moga. He was working in this school for the past 20 years.

Preliminary probe revealed that his wife divorced him around five years ago. His son was living with his mother, while his daughter was with him. She was married in Canada, sources said.

It was learnt that even after the division of property between his wife and son as per the divorce decree, his son was repeatedly demanding more property and money from his father for the past few months. However, Buta Singh was not willing to give in.

It was due to this reason that Buta Singh’s 30-year old son Happy allegedly stopped his father, who was coming on an Activa scooter, on the outskirts of Charik village. He reportedly attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon. Buta Singh was rushed to the hospital but he died.

The FIR was yet to be registered till the filing of this news report.
