Pbi varsity VC to get 3-year extension

PATIALA: The state government has decided to give extension of three years to Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh.

Patiala, December 8

The state government has decided to give extension of three years to Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh. This is the third time that the VC will be given this extension. If he completes his term, he will equal the 11-year term of Kirpal Singh Narang (1966-75, the second VC of Punjabi University), the longest term served by a VC of this university.

Dr Jaspal Singh joined the university on December 11, 2007 and his term was later extended in 2010 for three years i.e. till December 11, 2013. Then, he was further given a two-year extension till December 11, 2015.

Even though the VC could not be contacted despite repeated calls and messages, Punjab Higher Education Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra said that the state government has moved the file for a three-year extension to Dr Singh as he has proved his worth and the university has progressed leaps and bounds under him. — TNS
