In view of eve-teasing complaints, security has been tightened outside girls’ schools here.
At least six kidnap cases involving minor girls have been registered under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC at various rural police stations since the government allowed the re-opening of schools as part of Covid relaxations.
Bikers have been targeting girls when they pass through a narrow lane adjoining Nehru Park on their way to school and upon return.
On Saturday, a girl lodged a complaint that two bike-borne miscreants allegedly snatched her cellphone and purse near Nehru Park. The same day, a male student was assaulted by 12 persons outside a nursing home near a private girls school. The police today registered a case under Sections 307, 323/34 of the IPC against Prabh Singh of Dharam Nagari and Akash Pandit of Johari Mandir Road while 10 of their accomplices are yet to be identified. No arrest has been made so far.
Meanwhile, the district education officer today inspected four government schools in rural areas and reviewed arrangements for the ongoing pre-board exams.
