Simrandeep Brar, a former member of India U-19 cricket team (2002), has been promoted as Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner in the Excise and Taxation Department of the Punjab Government.

Brar, a 2012 batch PCS(A) officer, has previously served as ETO, Enforcement Wing, in Chandigarh, Patiala and Bathinda. He has also served as ETO (GST) in Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Bathinda and Tarn Taran.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
