Faridkot judge seeks action against police officer who 'threatened' lawyers in court
According to the court order on Friday, the officer raised a dispute in the courtroom and left without permission
Tension gripped the District and Sessions Court in Faridkot after a police officer allegedly threatened defence lawyers during court proceedings in an abetment of suicide case. Taking serious note of the incident, the Sessions Judge has directed the SSP, Moga, to initiate criminal or administrative action against the officer.
The incident occurred during the hearing of State versus Sham Sunder and others, a 2023 case relating to the suicide of a couple. SI Joginder Kaur, the Investigating Officer (IO), appeared as witness for recording her statement. During cross-examination, defence counsels Advocate Ashu Mittal and Advocate Karandeep Singh Bhullar questioned her regarding a corruption FIR earlier registered against her under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to the court order on Friday, the officer raised a dispute in the courtroom and left without permission. After the proceedings, she allegedly threatened Advocate Bhullar outside the courtroom, warning that a false FIR would be registered against him. The judge recorded Bhullar’s statement and observed that the officer left without responding to the allegation.
Expressing concern over the conduct of a uniformed officer within court premises, the Sessions Judge directed the SSP, Moga, to take necessary action and inform the court about the progress.
SI Joginder Kaur, currently posted at the Moga Police Lines, has previously faced controversy. In February 2025, while serving as SHO of Sadik police station in Faridkot district, she was booked in a corruption case for allegedly extorting Rs 2 lakh from a scrap dealer’s family in Ludhiana. She was arrested in that case and is presently out on bail.
