The incident occurred on the night of November 28-29, 2025, in Sukhanwala village. Gurvinder Singh, a Canada-based NRI and native of the village, was found dead at his home
In the alleged murder of an NRI, the Faridkot police on Friday filed a charge sheet against four individuals accused of murdering Gurvinder Singh in a plot allegedly driven by an illicit affair.
The incident occurred on the night of November 28-29, 2025, in Sukhanwala village. Gurvinder Singh, a Canada-based NRI and native of the village, was found dead at his home.
His wife, Rupinder Kaur—who had recently returned from Canada after being deported—initially reported the death as a robbery, claiming intruders had attacked and stolen gold jewelry.
Investigations by the Sadar Faridkot police had later unraveled the story.
Rupinder Kaur, aged around 27, was arrested on November 29, 2025. According to the police challan, presented in the court, she had an extramarital relationship with Harkawalpreet Singh, alias Ladhi, 28, from Balluana village in Bathinda district. Gurvinder was seen as an obstacle to their relationship.
The plan reportedly involved Rupinder administering intoxicating/sleep-inducing tablets to her husband. Harkawalpreet, along with driver Viswajit Kumar, 28 years, from Mandi Dabwali, Haryana, arrived at the house. They allegedly strangled Gurvinder to death after the poison failed to work fully. The scene was then staged to resemble a burglary, with household items scattered.
Postmortem revealed death due to asphyxiation, with signs of intoxication and minor injuries. Hair found in the victim's hand and other forensic evidence supported the case. A white Hyundai Aura car, used in the crime, was recovered based on disclosures.
Harkawalpreet was arrested on December 2, 2025, Viswajit on December 4, 2025, and a fourth accused, Veerwinder Kaur, alias Inder, 27, a friend of Rupinder, on December 20, 2025.
The charge sheet, under sections 103 (murder), 61(2) (conspiracy), 303(2), 317(2), and 238 of the BNS, has been presented in court. All accused are in custody.
