Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Pragya Jain said the arrests were a significant step towards dismantling a larger drug trafficking cartel.

The accused have been identified as Vishal alias Ghogga and Raman, both residents of Awa Basti on Border Road in Ferozepur district. Apart from the heroin, police also seized a motorcycle allegedly used for transporting narcotics.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the recovered consignment was meant for further distribution. SSP Jain confirmed that further inquiries were under way to establish both backward and forward linkages of the network.

Further background checks revealed that both accused had prior criminal records. Raman has four previous cases registered under drug trafficking, while Vishal has one such case against him. Notably, both had been released from jail in March 2026.

Police have secured their remand from the court to conduct detailed interrogation and trace the broader network involved.
