Fazilka duo arrested with drugs, weapons on NH 911; linked to Pakistan-based handler
Consignment dropped by drone; suspects arrested after high-speed chase on NH 911
Two residents of Fazilka, arrested during an operation on NH 911, were found to be in contact with a Pakistan-based crime syndicate handler, Ahmed, investigations revealed on Wednesday.
The consignment was dropped via a satellite-controlled drone and collected by the Fazilka-based men with the help of local conduits.
Sri Ganganagar police arrested the two car-borne suspects with heroin, opium and weapons. The accused have been identified as Kulwinder Singh and Robin Singh, residents of Mahatam Nagar in Fazilka. The investigation also revealed that an order for opium had been placed for the first time.
Sri Ganganagar ASP Raghuveer Sharma said intelligence inputs indicated that two youths from Punjab had arrived in a car to collect contraband. Acting on the tip-off, a roadblock was set up on the Salempura-Bajuwala road.
When the suspected car approached from the direction of Sameja town, it collided with ASI Vinod Kumar’s Bolero vehicle. SHO Krishan Kumar immediately ordered a secondary blockade on the road leading to Sameja, placing a tractor-trolley and a JCB machine across the route.
As the suspects attempted to breach the second blockade and flee, the police gave chase and apprehended them in nearby fields. A search of the car and their bags led to the seizure of 1.494 kg of heroin, 990 grams of opium, five pistols with magazines, and 74 live cartridges.
