Fazilka, November 15

Akali leaders and workers of Fazilka district resigned from the primary membership of the party on Thursday. Led by Jathedar Charan Singh, who has remained the party president of Fazilka circle (rural) for 32 years, about 60 party members, including former office-bearers of the Fazilka unit, resigned en masse from the party.

“The SAD president (Sukhbir Badal) is still not taking the sacrilege issue seriously,” said Charan Singh, adding that no one paid heed to their objections against the pardoning of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

He alleged that the Akali Dal’s senior leadership had thrust outsiders upon them in Fazilka district, who continuously “intervened” in local affairs due to which the local leaders felt let down. Sukhbir is the sitting MLAfrom Jalalabad in the district.
