Kapurthala policeman Amrik Shera, whose song ‘Gwandian de dhol vajda’ had been released without giving him credit, has won the battle as his name has found mention as the original writer of the song.

The Tribune had reported the matter and Shera had said the song had been put on YouTube without his knowledge. He said singers of the song approached him and agreed to his conditions that he must be given credit for the song.

Featuring Richa Chadha and Varun Sharma, the song has been making it big on the YouTube. Earlier, there was no mention of Shera’s name in the song’s link, but now after opening the link, one can see, “Original lyrics by Amrik Shera”.

“Now, the singers have asked me to write more songs for them. They have also expressed the desire to work with me in future. I have started working on that too,” Shera said.

He had also approached the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kapurthala, and given him a complaint demanding action against the singers and the company.

While earlier talking to The Tribune, Shera had said he would never release or give the 1,200 songs which he had written.

“Past incidents had dissuaded me to give my songs to anyone, but now that things have been sorted out, I am confident,” he said.

Shera said the singers of the song had promised him that they would put a video on YouTube too, mentioning that he had written the song “Gwandian de dhol vajda” and “Kala chashma”.

He said one of his songs “Aja ni Aja” would also be featured in a movie soon. “I have been writing songs ever since I was a teenager. I always wanted my village, Talwandi Cahudhariya, to get famous because of me,” he said.

“I have found a new way and will write more for Bollywood movies,” Shera added. Two years ago, when the song “Kala Chashma” featured in the movie “Baar Baar Dekho”, it became a hit, but no one knew about the lyricist. It only came to light after he narrated his story on how he was never told that the song was going to be part of a big film and the credits were not given to him.
