Ferozepur SDM-cum-Returning Officer has recommended registration of FIRs against 70 officials, including several teachers over their alleged absence from polling duty.

The SDM recommended action under Section 208 of the BNS and Section 120 of the Punjab State Election Commission Act, 1994.

However, the move has not gone down well with the teachers whose name figured in the list, all of whom are now up in arms against the administration. Enraged over the same, the teachers’ union has accused the administration of harassment, mismanagement and victimisation of polling staff.

Several teachers claimed that they had performed election duty and deposited ballot boxes late into the night, yet they were marked absent.
