Fatehgarh Sahib, February 3

Five BJP candidates announced by the district unit for the Mandi Gobindgarh Municipal Council poll had gone missing after getting threat calls. This was alleged by Pardeep Garg, district president, BJP, while addressing mediapersons here today. He was accompanied by district and state office-bearers of the BJP.

He said the BJP had announced 29 candidates for the 29 wards of the Mandi Gobindgarh Municipal Council and 15 candidates for 23 wards of the Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib Municipal Council. He said some of the candidates had filed papers yesterday amid protest and sloganeering by SAD and Congress workers. Today was the last day of filing the nominations but five of their candidates had gone missing and their cell phones were switched off.

Amloh SDM Anand Sagar Sharma denied the allegations and said 239 nominations had been received with no complaint from anyone. DSP Sukhminder Singh said he had not received any complaint from the BJP in this regard.
