Chandigarh, April 25
Punjab will get 215 companies, comprising approximately 5,000 personnel, of the paramilitary forces for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab, Dr S Karuna Raju said, “We have 16 companies more than we had got during the last parliamentary elections of 2014. As more forces get free after completion of elections in other parts of the country, in the earlier phases, we will seek additional numbers.”
The state has a total of 23,213 polling stations, out of which 4,977 have been identified as vulnerable. As many as 1,391 polling booths have been marked as critical. — TNS
49 file papers on fourth day
- On the fourth day of nomination on Thursday, 49 candidates filed their papers in the state. The total number of candidates till date is 107.
- Important leaders who filed their papers on Thursday included Paramjit Kaur Khalra (PEP) from Khadoor Sahib, Ravjot Singh (AAP) from Hoshiarpur, Ravneet Singh Bittu (Cong) from Ludhiana, Amar Singh (Cong) and Darbara Singh Guru (SAD) from Fatehgarh Sahib, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring (Cong) from Bathinda and Dharamvira Gandhi (Apna Punjab Party) from Patiala.
