Foreign-based kingpin-led drug network busted in Faridkot
Police recover 512 grams of heroin; preliminary investigations indicate accused was in direct contact with a mastermind based abroad
Police claimed to have dismantled a drug smuggling operation linked to a foreign-based kingpin. The operation resulted in the arrest of a local handler and the recovery of over half a kilogram of heroin.
Faridkot SSP Pragya Jain said during a routine patrol near Chak Sahu village, a police team intercepted a suspicious Hyundai Venue car travelling on the unpaved road from Ferozepur toward the Sadiq main road.
Upon searching the vehicle, officials recovered 512 grams of heroin. The accused has been identified as Gurmeet Singh, alias Meetu, a resident of Kamale Wala village in Ferozepur district.
The SSP revealed that preliminary investigations indicate Gurmeet Singh was in direct contact with a mastermind based abroad. He was acting as a local handler, responsible for supplying drug consignments within the local area.
The accused is a repeat offender with a history of drug trafficking. He was previously booked in a 2017 NDPS case at the Kulgari Police Station in Ferozepur.
DSP Tarlochen Singh stated that the police are currently seeking court remand for the accused to conduct a thorough investigation into his backward and forward links.
