Cong’s Nurpur Bedi block chief resigns

Ropar: Congress’ Nurpur Bedi block president Des Raj Saini here on Friday resigned from the party post after the high command “ignored” his supporters while allocating tickets for the panchayat samiti and zila parishad elections. Saini said he had recommended 12 names, including two for zila parishad tickets, and none of them was considered by the high command. Nupur Bedi block has 18 block samitis and two zila parishads. The differences in the local Congress unit came to fore on September 2 when Saini and many local party leaders raised an objection over Youth Congress leader Brinder Singh Dhillon’s visits to Nurpur Bedi villages for poll preparations. Saini had alleged that Dhillon was an outsider and he was announcing tickets for elections on his own, while ignoring party loyalists. TNS
