Moga, April 20

An alleged gangster was reportedly shot dead by unidentified persons at Bahona village on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Jaswinder Singh, alias Jassa, a resident of Kokri Kalan village. The 25-year-old “gangster” was an associate of Canada-based Khalistan Tiger Force’s (KTF) operative Arshdeep Singh, alias Arsh Dala, and KTF’s chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar. At present, he was out on bail.

SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said the police reached the spot immediately after learning about the incident and sent the body to the hospital for the post-mortem.

The SSP said, “Jassa was shot dead. He suffered a bullet injury in his head.”

The Centre had notified Nijjar as a “designated terrorist” under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Jassa allegedly used to supply arms to Nijjar’s key associates in the state.

Nijjar was a co-conspirator behind targeted killings in Punjab, including the murder of a Dera Sacha Sauda follower and firing on a priest. He was also the prime accused in the murder of gangster Sukha Lamme and a trader in Moga.

In September 2021, Jassa was arrested along with Amandeep Singh, alias Machher, of Ferozepur, Balraj Singh and Arun Sarwan of Moga. —
