Amritsar, July 22

The bodies of gangsters Jagroop Singh Rupa and Manpreet Singh, alias Mannu Kussa, were handed over to their family members after the post-mortem examination at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar. It is learnt that the process followed by various agencies to identify bodies and collect forensic samples led to inordinate delay in post-mortem examination.

The post-mortem examination started at around 9.30 pm was completed after four hours. Later, gangsters’ bodies were handed over to their family members in the late night, who took them to native villages amid police security.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations), Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, said the post-mortem report would reveal more details, which were awaited. “Initially, the CT scan of bodies revealed that Rupa was hit by two bullets and Mannu by three bullets. More details will emerge in the post-mortem report,” he said.

Rupa, one of the six shooters allegedly involved in murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala, was cremated at his native Jaura village in Tarn Taran district during the intervening night of July 21-22.

His father Baljinder Singh received the body. The last rites were performed at around 2.30 am and attended by family members and residents of the village.

With distress writ large on his face, Baljinder Singh lit the pyre. “What should I say when this chapter has closed now,” he said. Earlier, the family showed little sympathy towards Rupa and had stated to have snapped ties with him since 2017-18 as he had fallen in bad company.

About his younger son Ranjodh Singh’s absence, he said, “His leave could not be sanctioned.” Ranjodh serves in the Indian Army.

Meanwhile, the local gurdwara granthi performed ardas for the peace of the departed soul. The DSP, Patti, Satnam Singh and the SHO, Sarhali Parkash Singh, were among those, who were present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Mannu Kussa’s body, too, was cremated at his native Kussa village of Moga district on Friday. The police claim that he had killed Moosewala with an AK-47 on May 29.
