The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued notice to the Chandigarh Administration and State of Punjab on a petition seeking immediate security assessment and protection for a “prime witness” in the assassination case of Punjab’s former Chief Minister Beant Singh. The petitioner asserted he faced threat to life from Khalistani militants and sought directions to authorities to provide adequate security.

Taking up the plea, Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj of the High Court listed the matter for December 11. The petition filed through counsel Nikhil Ghai also pressed for an interim threat-perception report and provisional security cover during the pendency of proceedings.
