Amritsar/Hoshiarpur, July 11
Amid tight security, gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was produced before a court in Amritsar on Monday after his police remand ended. From there, the Hoshiarpur police took him on 24-hour transit remand in connection with an attempt to murder case.
Later, Bishnoi was produced in the court of JMIC Gursher Singh in Hoshiarpur and was remanded in seven-day police custody.
Bishnoi has been brought in connection with a shooting outside the house of a liquor contractor in Hoshiarpur in 2019. It may be mentioned here that on the statements of Malkit Singh, the gunman of the liquor contractor, the Model Town police station had registered a case under Sections 307 and 336 of the Arms Act against unidentified persons in 2019.
Pankaj Bedi, counsel for Bishnoi, claimed that the gangster had nothing to do with the case registered in 2019 as he was lodged in the Bhagatgarh jail at that time.
Bishnoi was arrested by the Mansa police after bringing him on a production warrant from Delhi in connection with the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. He was then brought on production warrant by the City police in connection with the murder of another gangster, Rana Kandowalia, in August last year.
