Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today virtually laid the foundation stone of Sardar Bahadur Amin Chand Soni Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (SBACAFPI) at Bajwara village here through video conferencing. The institute will facilitate more youth from the state to take up defence services as a career.
To be raised at a cost of Rs 27 crore over an area of 12.75 acres by the PWD (B&R), it would train 270 candidates per year and would be completed by the end of this year.
The CM thanked MP Ambika Soni, president, Sardar Bahadur Amin Chand Soni Education Trust and Society, for providing free land to the Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Department.
Local MLA and the Industries Minister Sunder Sham Arora along with DC Apneet Riyait and other officers witnessed the stone laying ceremony at a meeting hall of the district administrative complex. Bajwara sarpanch Preeti thanked the CM and Soni.
The CM lauded the role of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute, Mohali, in providing defence training to youth, enabling them to secure permanent commission in the Armed Forces through the National Defence Academy or equivalent service academy.
He also referred to the stellar performance of Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls, Mohali, which trains young girls after Class 12 for a career as commissioned officers in the defence services.
