The civil and police administration on Tuesday demolished an unauthorized structure built on panchayat land in village Secha, under the Sultanpur Lodhi police station limits, as part of the Punjab government’s anti-drug mission, ‘Yudh Nashe Virudh’ (War Against Drugs).

The action was initiated following a resolution passed by the village panchayat seeking legal action against an alleged drug trafficker who had encroached upon community land. Acting on orders of the Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO), Sultanpur Lodhi, heavy machinery was deployed to remove the illegal construction.

Officials said the encroachment was carried out by Gurbhej Singh alias Bheja, son of Jarnail Singh, who had unlawfully occupied panchayat land and constructed a house. The demolition drive was conducted jointly by the civil administration and police with adequate force to maintain law and order.

Confirming the development, Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Toora said Gurbhej Singh has a criminal record with nine cases registered against him, including seven under the NDPS Act and two related to violent offences. “Based on the panchayat’s resolution and the report submitted by the BDPO, strict action was taken to remove the encroachment,” the SSP said.
