In touch with those stuck in UAE: Punjab NRI Affairs Minister

Amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the state government has initiated coordinated measures to ensure safe return of Punjabis stranded at various airports in the United Arab Emirates, particularly Dubai.

Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Dr Ravjot Singh said the state government was in constant touch with affected individuals and was closely monitoring developments in the region. He emphasised that safeguarding the lives and interests of Punjabis abroad was the government’s top priority.

Singh revealed that he personally interacted via telephone with several tourists and expatriates from Punjab stranded at airports in Dubai and other parts of the UAE. He also spoke with Neeru Garg, Principal of SSD Girls College, Bathinda, to obtain first-hand information about the prevailing situation and the difficulties being faced by travelers.

Meanwhile, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Sunday called for immediate intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure safe evacuation of Indians stranded in Dubai and other Arab countries in view of the ongoing tensions in West Asia.

Expressing serious concern over reports of several Indians facing distress due to the prevailing situation, the Speaker emphasised that the Centre must accord top priority to their safe and dignified return.

The Speaker stressed that in times of international crisis, prompt action was essential to ensure that no Indian was left without support. “The safety, security and dignity of every Indian abroad must remain the foremost responsibility of the Central Government,” he added.
