Industrialist-turned-politician Arvind Khanna on Sunday joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), after quitting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
A former Congress leader, Khanna had joined BJP in 2022 and was later appointed vice-president of the party’s Punjab unit. He has contested multiple elections on the BJP ticket, including the 2022 Punjab Assembly election from Sangrur and the 2024 Lok Sabha election from the same constituency, but did not secure victory.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal visited Khanna’s house in Sangrur to induct him into the party. Sources close to Khanna said he was frustrated with BJP as, despite his best efforts, he didn’t get a response from rural areas for the party.
