Two days after a theft at a gun house in Jandiala, the Punjab Police on Wednesday arrested an ITI student and recovered 44 weapons from his possession.

The accused was identified as Vikramjit Singh of Nanaksar mohalla in Tarn Taran. Following his interrogation, the police recovered nine pistols, 35 revolvers and 1,300 bullets from an abandoned under-construction house in Tarn Taran.

IG, Border Range, SPS Parmar said three of his accomplices were still absconding and they would be arrested soon. The IG was accompanied by SSP, Amritsar Rural, Vikramjit Singh Duggal, Tarn Taran SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal and Counter Intelligence AIG Ketan Baliram Patil.

Initial reports suggested that 67 weapons were stolen from the gun house, of which 66 were deposited by the arms licence holders in view of the recently held Lok Sabha polls. However, SSP Duggal said after verifying the facts, total 44 weapons were found stolen from the gun house. He said raids were on to nab the remaining accused. Two of the accused were mechanics from Tarn Taran.
