JAC urges Power Minister to halt sale of PSPCL, PSTCL land under OUVGL scheme
The land can be used to construct new substations, modern offices, store outlets, transformer receiving yards, and metering labs, besides addressing congestion issues, said committee's secretary
Power Sector Joint Action Committee (PSJAC) has urged the new Power Minister to drop the proposed sale of state power companies’ properties, belonging to PSPCL and PSTCL, on the pretext of the OUVGL scheme, which was meant for the upgradation of power sector infrastructure in the state.
Ajaypal Singh Atwal, Secretary, PSJAC, in his letter dated May 15, said that the sale of Powercom land has spread resentment among thousands of employees, engineers, pensioners, and other stakeholders.
“Selling these properties is a short-sighted measure that will hinder long-term development. Instead, these assets can be optimally utilised to strengthen the power sector. The land can be used to construct new substations, modern offices, store outlets, transformer receiving yards, and metering labs, besides addressing congestion issues. It can also be used for setting up ground-mounted solar power plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS), aligning with national green energy targets,” he urged.
