Amritsar, November 16

A jail inmate injected drugs into another prisoner in the high-security Central Jail here on Wednesday. The latter was taken to the Civil Hospital after his health deteriorated.

On the complaint of the jail authorities, the police have booked both under the NDPS Act and the Prisons Act. They have been identified as Davinder Singh of Sarai Amanat Khan, Tarn Taran, and Kanwarpal Singh of Saleempura village in Ajnala.

Assistant Jail Superintendent Davinder Singh said, “During checking in barrack number 7 of room number 8 on Wednesday, jail guards found Davinder injecting drugs to Kanwarpal. By the time they reached near them, the latter fell unconscious. They took him to the jail hospital, from where doctors referred him to the Civil Hospital. His condition is now stated to be stable. They recovered a syringe and a needle from the spot.”

Jail Superintendent Arshdeep Singh said, “Apparently, they dissolved a tramadol tablet in water to use the same in an injection. They might have brought the syringe by hiding it in their private parts.”
