Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal on Tuesday alleged that Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar was indulging in vendetta by getting false cases registered against SAD-BJP workers. He demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.
Supported by Abohar MLA Arun Narang, at least four families alleged that they were being continuously harassed by the police and the alleged “goons” of the Gurdaspur MP on one pretext or the other.
Amit Sachdeva, an advocate, alleged that his father was handcuffed and paraded for two hours in the bazaar to humiliate him for supporting BJP candidate. He alleged that even now the family members were being threatened with dire consequences. He said repeated false cases were being registered against them solely because they had supported Narang.
Young girls from the family of a businessman, Mohinder Bathla, alleged that not only were false cases being registered against them, but also their land had been taken over by Congress “goons”.
Bathla’s daughter Dr Saloni said: “Our only fault is that we supported the BJP.”
Another victim Sunil Goyal, a councillor from Abohar, alleged that he had to spend five months in jail due to a false case registered against him at Jakhar’s behest.
Jakhar said: “Speaking in favour of spurious pesticide sellers shows the level to which Sukhbir has fallen. He is frustrated and does not even know the ground reality. He is supporting people who are on the wrong side of the law.”
