An armed youth tried to shoot jeweller Vishal Shoor while he was opening his shop in the Majitha road area here on Wednesday. The incident occurred a few metres away from the Majitha road police station.

Vishal, who is also a BJP leader, narrowly escaped as the bullet got stuck in the chamber of the pistol. The police found a live bullet from the spot. As the pistol did not fire, the suspect fled on a bike with his two accomplices.

Though the police claimed they had ample clues in the matter and that six teams were conducting raids to arrest the perpetrators, the BJP has condemned the incident and said the law and order situation under the AAP regime has turned worse.

Vishal Shoor said he was opening his shop when a youth came there and tried to shoot him. However, his pistol did not fire. “He was only two feet away from me when he attempted to open fire. I don’t know the motive behind the incident. The accused had come to the shop yesterday also for getting a gold ‘kada’,” he said. He urged the police authorities to identify and arrest the accused.

Condemning the incident, BJP district president Harwinder Singh Sandhu said, “We hope the police catch the suspect or we will be forced to hold protests. We give 24 hours to the police for arresting the suspect.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police (North) Arvind Meena said the police had found some vital clues in the case. “Six teams have been constituted that have been investigating and carrying out raids to nab the suspects,” he said.
