Sangrur, June 12

To protest against the alleged lathicharge during their protest in Patiala on June 8, unemployed members of five different unions under the banner of the Joint Front of Unemployed staged a protest in Sangrur and burnt the effigy of the state government on Saturday.

“On June 8, we had gone to gherao the residence of CM Capt Amarinder Singh in Patiala to protest against the failure of the state government in giving us jobs, but the police lathicharged us. We will not lift our protest till we are given government jobs,” said Sukhwinder Singh Dhilwan, president, BEd and TET-Pass Union. They started a protest march from Singla’s residence and burnt the effigy of the government on the main road. “Our meeting has been fixed with the senior authorities on June 14. We have decided to again gherao the residence of the CM in Patiala if the government fails to accept our long-pending demand for jobs,” said Dhilwan.
