The police have registered an FIR under Sections 140(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Nangal police station.
The accused have been identified as Anesh, a resident of Killa Rehmadgarh in Malerkotla; and Vishal Kumar, resident of Bhabhor Sahib village near Nangal.
According to police, the accused — both wrestlers who had come to participate in a wrestling competition — committed the crime under the influence of liquor.
According to the FIR recorded on the statement of Gulshan Rai (64), he was on his way when two youths approached him in a car and offered him a lift. Trusting them, Rai got into the vehicle; however, the youths allegedly attempted to kidnap him and demanded money — driving him towards the Himachal border.
During the alleged kidnapping attempt, the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into a roadside pole. The impact left one of the suspects semi‑conscious inside the car, while the other fled the scene, but was later arrested by police.
Rai escaped and ran back to the market area, and informed local residents about the incident. Responding swiftly, they rushed to the scene and the accused was turned over to the police.
